Thais Nunez Rocha is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Orleans. Additionally, prior to her Ph.D., she gained experience in sustainability, climate change, and renewable energies while working in various institutions in the Ecuadorian public sector. She also worked as a consultant for the World Bank. Her research interests include environmental regulations, trade and the environment, environmental economics, development, natural resources, trade in dangerous substances, dangerous products, health consequences, and policy recommendations in these fields.

Making trade agreements more environmentally friendly in the MENA region

Trade policy can play a significant role in efforts to decarbonise the global economy. But as this column explains, there need to be more environmental provisions in trade agreements in which developing countries participate – and stronger legal enforcement of those provisions at the international level. The MENA region would benefit substantially from such changes.
